Birthday Songs From The 80s

by Kathy

A lot of people love the 80s music. With the 1980s being the decade of big hair and high-rise pants, they were also the decade of great music. A lot of people will agree that partying is more fun when you do it to 80s music. But if you are planning a party for someone who was born in the 80s, it is important to consider what kind of songs to play to make your friends feel like they are back in their hey days.

The following are some birthday songs that you can play for your friends who were born in the 80s:

The Birthday Song:

This is a song by Stevie Wonder and it is probably one of his most popular ones. It was released in 1981 and it peaked at number four on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It won Stevie Wonder a Grammy Award for best R&B song. The song has been covered by a lot of artists including Destiny’s Child, Ray Charles, Mahalia Jackson, Kenny Loggins and Luther Vandross among others.

The lyrics talk about how we all have our own special day – even if we don’t want to admit it – because every day is somebody’s birthday.

Celebrate Good Times:

Also known as the “Good Times” song, this song was released by Kool & The Gang in 1979. It was written by Robert ‘Kool’ Bell and Ronald Bell. This is one of the most popular songs by Kool and the Gang. This song is a great party song because it gives you the feeling of having a good time with your friends. It also has a catchy beat that will get everyone moving to the music and dancing to it while they are celebrating their friend’s birthday.

The lyrics talk about how people need to forget their worries for just one day and celebrate life with some good times together with their friends. The best part about this song is that it can easily be sung along to by all your friends who are born in the 80s, making sure they have a great time at your party

It’s Raining Men:

Originally released in 1979 by The Weather Girls, this song became an instant hit – especially when it was featured in the movie ‘The Weather Girl’ starring Julie Delpy, Albert Finney and Alan Rickman among other stars – which was also released in the same year. The Weather Girls are comprised of Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes.

The song is about a guy who was originally dating a woman who had bad luck with men. This is why she started to have a ‘man-hater’ attitude. But then when it rains, her man comes out of nowhere and never leaves her side again. In the end, the guy is happy that he found his true love and that she loves him as much as he loves her.

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go:

Originally released in 1984, this song reached number two on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It was written by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken for Wham!’s third studio album ‘Make It Big’ released in 1984. This song became one of the most popular songs by Wham! – along with another popular song by them called ‘Careless Whisper’ which was also released in 1984 – which prompted them to be labeled as one of Britain’s biggest pop groups at the time. The song was also featured in their compilation album entitled ‘The Final’ which was released in 1986. The song has been covered and remixed a number of times since and it has been featured in several movies such as ‘Resident Evil (2002)’, ‘The Wedding Singer (1998)’ and ‘Cruel Intentions (1999)’.

The lyrics talk about how the guy is missing his girl so much that he wakes up every morning before she goes to work. He usually watches her leave from the window of their apartment but then he goes back to bed to wait for her to come home again (and he does this again when she comes home from work).

Tutti Frutti:

This is another 80s song by Little Richard which was released in 1955. It became one of his best-known songs and it was a huge hit back then – especially in the United States – where it reached number two on Billboard’s Rhythm & Blues chart and number ten on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The song was also nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Original Song. It was later covered by pop artist Madonna who released it in 1986 with The Beastie Boys as part of her compilation album entitled ‘You Can Dance’ (which was also released in 1986). It was also featured in the movie ‘Rock Star (2001)’ starring Mark Wahlberg among other stars.

The lyrics talk about how a guy will do anything for his girl – even if it means going to the ends of the earth – just to be with her and make her happy.

Jump:

This song was released by Van Halen in 1984 and it became their first hit single from their fourth studio album, ‘1984’ which was also released in that same year. The song reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart but it also achieved a lot of success on the mainstream rock charts, peaking at number two there. The song has been covered by a number of artists including English pop band All Saints (who covered it in 1997), French singer Mika (who covered it in 2009) and British pop band Sugababes (who covered it in 2010). The song has also been featured on several compilation albums such as ‘Now That’s What I Call Music! 3’, ‘Now That’s What I Call Music! 10’ and ‘Now That’s What I Call Music! 49’ among others.

The music video for this song is quite interesting as it features the band playing upside down on platforms which are suspended from the ceiling. It has a great beat that will get everyone at your party in the mood to party
