80’s popular male actors are some of the best known actors and musicians in the history of cinema. They were able to reach a level of fame that few other actors had ever achieved. This was mostly due to the fact that they all received a lot of exposure on television throughout the 80s, which resulted in many people knowing their names and faces.

Here are some of the top male actors from the 80s:

Anthony Michael Hall

Anthony Michael Hall became famous during the 1980s. Mostly, he became famous for acting in comedy and dramas for teenagers like Breakfast Club (1985) and Weird Science (1985). He also briefly had a recurring role in SNL in 1985, though it only lasted about a year.

As for today, he still performs in the film industry. He has appeared in television shows like Riverdale, Awkward., and The Goldbergs. Also, he has appeared in several films, including Halloween Kills (2021) and The Class (2008).

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson is one of the most controversial characters out there, but there’s no denying that he was one of the biggest icons of the 1980s. He started the 80s with Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) a sequel to the Mad Max Franchise. There was also widespread praise for his role in The Year of Living Dangerously (1982).

Later, Gibson returned to his upcoming film Lethal Weapon (1987). That film was a huge box office success, and it became the first in three sequels that established Gibson as one of Hollywood’s top-ranked stars for action blockbusters.

Jon Cryer

Jon Cryer became popular in the 1980s, when he was a part of the Brat Pack. He was the one who played the adorable and nerdy Duckie in Pretty in Pink (1986). He also appeared in the 1987 Superman movie, titled Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Later, he worked for the TV series “Two and a Half Men”. That show also starred Charlie Sheen. He appeared in about 240 episodes of this hit TV show. He is also a recurring star on the Supergirl TV series and other DC series like Arrow and The Flash.

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise was one of the most famous actors during the 80s, though he is probably best known for his role in Top Gun (1986). Another well known role he played was a brothel owner in Risky Business (1983).

Cruise is still a superstar who is able to make millions of dollars from films worldwide. Alongside movies and independent films, Cruise continues to star in popular franchises, including his recurring roles in Mission: Impossible and Jack Reacher.

Robert De Niro

Robert de Niro started off the 1980s by winning the second Oscar for his work in the movie Raging Bull, in which he was directed by Martin Scorsese. At the time, De Niro was already a winner of the Academy Award for his role in the 1974 film The Godfather Part II. Before that, he had also starred in some of his most famous movies, including Taxi Driver (1976).

There were some wonderful films made by De Niro during the 1980s, and they reinforced his place as one of the greatest actors of that decade. Some of these films included The King of Comedy (1982) and Once Upon A Time in America (1984). So the actor became a box office draw. Other picks for his hit movies included Midnight Run (1988).
